Sebastian's Yellow Birthday

We celebrated Sebastian's second birthday today at our home with Emma's parents, brother and sister-in-law. Emma made a cake featuring one of Sebastian's favorite things on earth&mbdash;a backhoe—and decorated the room in yellow, his favorite color.

Happy Thanksgiving!!

We're a day late, but Happy Thanksgiving all the same!! Ours was a little different than we had planned, but when it ended, we still had just as many reasons for gratitude to our Father. He never, ever fails to give us our daily bread!

We surely miss our family and friends, and, Family, we were so glad to be able to spend a few minutes on the webcam with most of you! Love from Texas.

We started the week last Sunday morning with a Scripture reading from Matthew 25. This passage stuck in my mind, and I purposed to try to be Jesus to my family in new and deliberate ways this week. Little did I know, I would actually be on the receiving end.

Sick-1
Thomas is finally on the mend! Last night he finally was, without a doubt, fever-free. I would have never before thought to look to a three-month-old for lessons in longsuffering.

Sick-2
I've also seen Jesus this week in Micah. He is struggling on and off with his TMJ. We are taking the next step in treatment for him, but in order to go forward, it sometimes feels like we have to take two steps back. But he doesn't complain.

Sebastian is very compassionate about Micah's jaw problems, and if you mention it to him, he will say, "Ow, Daddy?" and point to his cheeks. After putting Thomas down for a nap yesterday, I came into the living room to see that Sebastian had laid out some of his very favorite books for his dad (even though he was currently resting). I found him playing patiently and quietly by the couch and "reading" to himself.

Then Jesus rang the doorbell. Well, you know what I mean. :) We opened the front door last night to see kind neighbors offering us what they called "Thanksgiving in a Box." This wasn't dry, crusty daily bread. This daily bread was a feast.

I took yesterday one thing at a time, and not one thing failed to be daily bread...for my body and my soul.  Thanks to our friends, our bellies are Thanksgiving-full, but our hearts are full, too. We are loved and are learning to love. And, speaking for myself, I am thankful for Jesus, and that He has spent so much time teaching me this week. I am so blessed to be a wife and mommy to these guys!

Happy Thanksgiving, everyone.

recently...

Recently made, that is. Micah's Christmas stocking, and my best solution for a fridge full of grapefruit (so far). Also, a cute little elf models a night cap.

Visitors

Last week, we were blessed to have relatives in our home! Aunt Alison was in TX visiting Cousin Emily and little Olivia, and they all three came up to spend the evening with us. Olivia was a hit with us all, especially Sebastian. He is still talking about her, today. Did I mention they brought along a full dinner for us AND pie??
